4 cited for Helena gas theft

HELENA — Helena police cited four people, including a 16-year-old, in connection with a suspected attempt to steal fuel from a truck early Sunday.
Helena Police Chief Troy McGee said officers had been keeping an eye on the area around Lyndale Avenue and Ewing Street because of recent fuel thefts from vehicles.
Industrial estate fuel theft spate warnings
Police are warning business owners to make sure their diesel is safe following an increase in diesel theft.
In the past six weeks there have been several diesel thefts from businesses on industrial estates in mid-Somerset.
In each case diesel has been stolen from either a vehicle fuel tank or a larger tank used to fill vehicles.
All the thefts are being investigated and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any of the crimes or saw people acting suspiciously in industrial estates.
Hounslow 'worst' London borough for fuel thefts
Hounslow is the worst London borough for fuel being stolen from vehicles, according to figures obtained from the Metropolitan Police.
The west London borough had a total of 175 reports between 2009 and 2012, but only five prosecutions.
Greenwich, Lewisham, Southwark and Merton emerge in the top five boroughs for fuel theft.
The Met said the majority of thefts were from commercial haulage vehicles which were prominent in Hounslow.
It said the area served both Heathrow airport and central London and advised that parking goods vehicles in areas with good lighting and CCTV was the most effective way of reducing opportunities for thieves to steal diesel.
Highbridge fuel thefts prompt warning to motorists in the area
Police are warning motorists in the BurnhamOn-Sea area to make sure their fuel is secure following an increase in diesel theft.
In the past six weeks there have been several diesel thefts from businesses on industrial estates in the Highbridge, Taunton and Bridgwater areas. In each case diesel has been stolen from either a vehicle fuel tank or a larger tank used to fill vehicles. Two thefts of diesel from fuel tanks in Isleport Business Park in Highbridge in January and Feburary 2013.
"All the thefts are being investigated and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any of the crimes or saw people acting suspiciously in industrial estates," a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"We would also like to hear from anyone selling diesel at suspiciously low prices or in otherwise suspicious circumstances."
Man charged with stealing equipment from local business
A Chicago man was in the Calhoun County Jail Tuesday awaiting trial on multiple theft and burglary charges, police said.
Chester Lee Coleman, 52, allegedly stole several gas pump meters and copper from Anniston Pump Shop, a petroleum equipment remanufacturer, located on U.S. 431. A police report states the thefts began on Dec. 26 and Coleman allegedly returned to the business several times before he was arrested on Jan. 4.
A representative from Anniston Pump Shop declined to comment on the thefts.
